Hi guys, Jodie here! 21, Scottish, Student!

This blog contains art, photography, magicians, Star Trek, video games, random shit and lots of moaning in Doric. Some NSFW

Thank you for visiting x

My lecturer has given me the first go ahead for me to do my report, which will be on the rise of spiritualism from the Fox Sisters and the Davenport brother’s parlour tricks, to modern day tv psychics and horoscopes. It will also touch of the rise in secularism and the ‘pick n mix’-ing of different spiritual paths.

My lecturer asked me before I left if I had enough material on this kind of thing, and I just thought of that massive bookcase in my room full of books on magic trick and the history of magic.
yes I have more then enough material for this thanks.

I love the fact I have one set of friends I normally see every other day and who text the usual “Hey” or “Dinner and drinks tonight?”

And then I have another set of friends who text me things like “Lady stands on table. Curtain rises and stays up for 5 secs top. Curtain goes down and she’s vanished. Catch - there is a crowd 360 around the table. Explain please.” “Gimme an hour.”

Haha it’s not that difficult once you get used to them :) You should try it sometime!

Once I stop looking like an idiot with a squeaky voice on camera I will ;)

I hope so, it’s the same with Fontaine. Like I can do it but can’t seem to get it on camera :/

I can’t really say much since I can’t get cameras to work, let alone film in front of them XD

Haha that’s pretty cool! I actually need to do a video of my ACR but I can never seem to get them right on camera :/

I bet you’ll get it soon enough :)

Aw cool, I haven’t really learned a new trick in a while. “Fontaine” was my most recent one I leaned and it’s really fun! Haha, yeah my ACR is a bit like that I think? Like the spectator is making the card jump. Although they are all like that really

Not ACR, but here’s my one.

After being asked to show them how to do a trick, I tell them to let me choose a card (to keep) and for me shuffle the rest of the deck (like a magician would normally let a spectator do). The spectator (playing the magician) then separates it into two piles. I ask them to guess my card, they say they don’t know (obv), I say they do.

I tell them to turn over the two top cards on the piles, which show something like 2 of Clubs and 5 of Spades. I ask what my card is again and they say they don’t know.

I point to the first card and say “Value?” “2.” “Suit?” “Spades” and point back and forth so they say “2. Spades. 2. Spades.” then I point at my card. The spectator says “2 of Spades” and I turn it over to show that it is.

Haha yeah agreed! I do it for fun but take the practicing and the video making seriously, obviously. You have a favourite trick/routine?

I have a few, the one I do most is one called the ‘Three Robbers’ cause it’s basically a routine in itself and was the first trick I learned. There’s another (can’t remember the name) where you turn the tables so it looks like the participant is doing the magic and not you - just for the punchline “now shhh, don’t tell the secret of how it’s done” ;D

Haha that’s really cool! I just started it l back up again about a year and a half ago. Not to get a job(s) out of it but just for fun and I’ve ended up where I am now. I used to do it about 3 years ago but lost interest and gave up for almost a year

Same, it comes and goes with me too. I kinda cringe when I see people who are very seriously about it and take the fun out of it *coughMagicCafécough* who just need to chill out and have a kit kat. If I was doing it as a job, I’d like one like Jonathan has in “Jonathan Creek” - designing for someone who’ll preform it at it’s best for audiences

That’s awesome! :) How long have you been doing it for? I still think it’s funny that I had no idea that you were a fellow magician!

Since I was about 9-ish, but it’s more of a hobby than a life style though but I love the mechanics and psychology behind how tricks work :D I think what I lack performance-wise I can make up for in creative know how

The family joke is I could always remember how a trick was done, from watching small segment on TV or in a book years and years ago - but could never remember birthdays or peoples names who I saw every day.

You got any videos or anything? :)

Na, sorry - I’ll leave that to you and jabjay. You guys are better performers,  I’m more of a ‘designing illusions for others and doing tricks in private’ type
